Is the family unit obsolete? When considering reasons why family is important, we realize that the family creates the basic building blocks of society and holds a significant role in maintaining it. Without the family, society crumbles.

“Your accomplishments in business will not be on your tombstone. But your family will be.”

—late entrepreneur-turned-Senator Frank Lautenberg,

The past few decades have seen a significant change in the Traditional American Family. Cohabitation is increasing, and we cannot apply a single concept of family universally anymore.

Young people are showing a lack of interest in marriage. Many children live with an unmarried parent, and same-sex marriage is legal on the whole continent. Despite the growing changes in family arrangements, its importance remains the same.

Have you ever wondered what makes a family so special? Well, there are infinite reasons why family is important. Actually, experts consider it essential.

Research such as this 30-year study at John Hopkins University, prove the necessity of the family for success in life. Researchers concluded that strong families mattered more than education when predicting a better future life.

Think about the most valuable asset in your life today. Is it your home, your car, or your 401K? You might not think of them at first, but a family is their most treasured asset to most people out there. Out of all the wealth and riches a person has, a family would hurt them the most to lose. A Family never leaves your side. They see you through the ups and downs of your life and love you despite all your mistakes. It is on us to understand why family is necessary to give them the love and care they deserve. So here are a few reasons why family is important.

Family is your first-ever school

Our family provides our first ever social connection to our world. The family institution is as old as the first man and lady created at the beginning of the world. It is the primary institution where youngsters are acculturated, prepared for life, learn their values, and get a sense of belonging. Another reason why family is important is that it is the basic unit of social structure and an essential socialization agent.

Every influence that debilitates the family will, at last, weaken society. Because if a family fails, it will bring down a lot of other institutions. As the conjugal bond nurtures, it fortifies a solid family foundation for fabricating moral and spiritual standards.

A home is a place for teaching and illustrating values. Here, the character is either cultivated or crushed. Home is where we learn the fundamental values of life and learn good manners, which become our lifelong guiding force. It designs our mindset and lays the foundation of our thinking. This pretty much sums up why your family is the most valuable asset you have in this life.

Families are Important to society.

The first and foremost reason why a family is important is due to its impact on society. A society forms from a group of families. Stable families contribute to a happy and healthy community.  As you examine research about crime, the economy, and social services, it becomes more evident. It is essential to mention here that regardless of a family’s type, its stability is important.

Stable families tend to live close in proximity to each other, resulting in more regulated jobs and wages as it increases the demand for a secure job market and fair wages, which helps regulate the economy.

Believe it or not, if you are tied closely with your family, you have a lower chance of engaging in any criminal activity. Unconditional support from your parents helps you get through tough times, maintains a sense of worth, and gives you something to stay motivated.

Family is our support system

How nice it is to have a set of people who are always by your side. Family is our support system and stays by us through thick and thin. A healthy family bond gives you a sense of belonging and helps you live a balanced life. They are your 3 am go-to people who will never turn down your phone no matter what time of the night it is.

Family sticks up for you when you feel let down by your BFF of many years or your girlfriend/boyfriend.

They give us a sense of belonging.

Sense of belonging is the basic human need. It is an innate desire of each soul. As described by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, a theory that states the five categories of human needs that decide a human’s behavior, a sense of belonging is the third most important human need after the basic physiological and safety requirements.

What a beautiful feeling it is that there is someone out there to who you belong. It helps you seeing the value in life and coping with intensely painful emotions. It makes you want to return home every night to the ones who care- your father, your mother, your siblings, your grandparents, your wife, and your kids. Y

our family defines the kind of person you are. They share your good times and help you through your worst as well.
